Course Description:
The purpose of the Category 1: Prescribed Medications and Health-Related Activities course is to teach and certify unlicensed Developmental Disabilities (DD) staff to meet the essential requirements to provide Medication Administration and Health-Related Activities.
Certification of non-licensed DD personnel will authorize individuals to prepare, administer and document prescribed medications in accordance with Ohio Revised Code and Administrative Code laws and rules which allow DD personnel to administer medication with and without RN delegation.
The course will be taught in accordance with required DODD curriculum manuals for Category 1 and presented by DODD certified trainers.
Criteria for successful completion of this course: Participants must ATTEND and PARTICIPATE in all of the class and skills sessions. Unlicensed DD personnel will be eligible for certification when all of the following are achieved:
Minimum of 14 hours for Cert. Category 1
Submit an evaluation of this program to the instructor.
Successfully demonstrate performance of health-related activities, medication preparation, administration for each route of medication administration, and documentation for each route of medication administration presented in the 14-hour course.
Pass a closed book course written exam with a score of 80% or better.
Failure to pass the written exam will result in the personnel being required to reschedule and retake the entire 14-hour course.
Course Description:
(This Training class will certify DD personnel in the required DODD Certification 2, however, this DOES NOT imply or authorize delegation. Nursing delegation MUST be obtained after certification)
The purpose of this 4-hour course is to provide participants with the educational basis to receive information for feeding and medication administration per stable labeled Gastrostomy/Jejunostomy (G/J) tubes. This will include understanding the equipment and procedure for feeding and medication administration per G/J tube, the placement of G/J tubes, site care and maintenance of these tubes, and requirements for nursing delegation and documentation.
Attend the ENTIRE program, participate in discussion and activities, and complete and submit an evaluation of this program to the instructor.
Pass the course with an 80% score or better on a closed book test.
Perform a successful return demonstration in:
Administration of prescribed medications per G/J Tube
Administration of prescribed nutritional supplement per G/J Tube
Care and maintenance of the G/J Tube and the insertion site
Resolving common complications associated with use of G/J Tubes
Failure to pass the written exam will result in the personnel being required to reschedule and retake the entire 4-hour course.
Course Description:
The purpose of this 4-hour course is to train participants to understand the types of diabetes mellitus (DM), identify potential signs and symptoms of DM, understand the treatment of DM, understand and demonstrate correct use of a glucometer, and demonstrate ability to administer subcutaneous insulin injection.
This course will also touch on the importance of the care of individuals with diabetes such as diet and exercise, foot care, complications of uncontrolled DM, and documentation, etc. Subcutaneous insulin injection can be done by Delegating Nurses ONLY.
This training class will certify DD personnel in the required DODD.

This 2.5-hour course will satisfy the DODD requirements for renewing your certificate in Prescribed Medications and Health-Related Activities. You must have a valid Certification 1 certificate to attend this course. This approved continuing education is required annually. Return demonstration of skills.
Course Description:
This 1.5-hour course will satisfy the DODD requirements for renewing your certificate in Administration of Food and Prescribed Medication per Stable Labeled G-tube and J-tube. You must have a valid Certification 2 certificate to attend this course. This approved continuing education is required annually. Return demonstration skills.
Course Description:
This 1.5 -hour course will satisfy the DODD requirements for renewing your certificate in Subcutaneous Insulin Injection by Nursing Delegation. You must have a valid Certification 3 certificate to attend this course. This approved continuing education is required annually. Return demonstration skills for glucometer, insulin and glucagon.
